我叫Dan,是美国UT Austin建筑学研究生,昨天(美国中部时间2011年3月23)被骗走2650美金,现在将过程详细写出,希望在美国的中国留学生们提高警惕。

起因:

由于室友和我都暑假计划回国,所以想将apt 在暑假sublease给别人。于是在UT CSSA上Post了sublease的广告,包括房子的各种细节。

经过:

一个星期以后,一个叫Abenela的女生给我邮件,说很感兴趣我的房子,问了apt的详细情况,确定满意要租,我很高兴。我们所有都是英文邮件,当时完全没有起疑心。

她告诉我她是foreshore
Service的员工,现在在英国执行任务,暑假会被公司派到Austin,所以想租房,她强调所有的费用会由公司承担,所以公司会给她一张整个暑假房租
的支票,她会寄给我,并且信任我扣掉第一个月的房租,并把剩下的寄还给她的travel manager。

于是3天后我就收到了面额为3500美金的支票(由于房租750刀一月,我算了一下5月到8月四个月加上电和网这个数字确实合理),所以转头将钱存入了银行UFCU。

接着她不断催促我将剩下的钱打给她的travel manager,并且说公司一定要用west union汇款现金。

我只是觉得有些奇怪,但是想可能是她们公司的办事程序就没有多想。随后去银行准备取出2650刀(这是3500刀减去了第一月750刀房租和100刀网和
电剩下的)汇走,但是银行hold住了我的账户,由于她的3500元支票我是用ATM存的,银行强调说需要几天时间collect支票并确认真伪。我认为
合理,于是从17号等到22号(6天时间),22号一早,她的邮件催促我寄钱,我自认为多拿了人家钱确实应该马上寄回,于是查账,钱已到账,于是取了
钱,west union汇款成功。

结果23号收到她邮件,她说谢谢manager已经收到钱,但是她公司取消了行程,所以无法来Austin,希望我寄回750刀第一月房租,自己留100
刀作为“违约费”。。。我仍觉得合理。。。遂去ATM机取钱,却被告知卡被偷,账户已为负数。当时已经超过5点,无法找银行argue。

吓出一身冷汗,晚上跟室友说起这事,室友很严肃的分析:

1. 怎么能随便给陌生人寄2650刀现金?这有问题

2. 她为什么那么催促? 有问题

3. 都不认识我她凭什么寄那么打面额支票给我? 有问题...

觉得自己白得透顶了,在美国大学待久了,人都nice,完全没有想过要怀疑...但是这样一分析,很可能被骗了...

但是室友安慰我:

a。也有可能银行出错

b。他们已经拿到第一笔钱,其实已近可以消失了,为什么再发退750刀的邮件?



结果:

第二天忐忑不安地去银行一问:支票时假的。。。当时就崩溃了。。。银行把我的账户hold了6天,然后解冻后钱到账我认为是支票没有问题了,所以放心取钱
出来,结果第七天他们发现支票无法兑现,就从我的账户直接扣去了3500刀。。。结果我的account直接变成负数。。。我和他们argue,怎么能在
没有确认支票真伪的情况下就将我的账户激活,却之后再扣走钱呢?跟他们argue了一个小时,高强度的英语说得我口干舌燥,但是实在势单力薄,12点半还
有课,只好背着大大的书包回到studio,哭着电话G,美国同学听见了上前询问,结果气愤不已,说银行是有责任的,并立马offer和我一起去银行理
论,她知道我再怎么样语言也不占优势,两个人奋战了半个小时,银行的manager仍然强大的否认了银行的一切责任。。。

但是骗子十分清楚美国银行对于支票的运作过程,赚了一个时间差,这是他们催促我汇钱的真正原因。

在美国待了快2年,大学环境好人都很诚实,结果导致我的警惕性降到如此不可理喻。。。

上网一查,这是典型的骗局,但是很多中国留学生都不知道,主要是不清楚社会运作原理和方式,而且平时学习压力大,一个人处理所有的东西,经常疏漏,被人欺
负。 所以我特意写出来,身边很多中国同学都在国外飘,都不容易,希望都要提高警惕,美国骗子很多,平时遇事请三思。我吃一堑,希望大家都长一智。

Hello,

My name is Michel Dalton . I'm a project manager in civil engineering. I
just moved in United Kingdom because my company has won an auction for a
big construction project. I'll stay here for the next 3-4 years or more
so I won't come back in Australia soon. I'm looking for someone to live
in my apartment from there. Also i would like to know a little
something about you, like how many persons do you intend to live in my
apartment, for what period, how old are you etc.. Don't be offended but i
must know to who i will rent my apartment.

I will tell you from the beginning that I don't have a problem if you
are a student or if you would like to keep pets there, as long as you
clean up after them. The apartment is exactly like in the pictures. The
minimum lease is for 2 months. Also, very important, the utilities are
included in the price of AU $1000 per month. First payment will be for 1
month + a security bond of AU $1,500.

I'm 48 years old and as I told you, i'm a project manager and my job
even if is paid very well, requires that I move a lot and without
notice. I bought the apartment while I was working there. You can move
in the apartment in the same day that you will receive the keys. The
only problem is that I'm already in Manchester, UK because we started
the work, but you don't need to worry because i've made all arrangements
to rent the apartment from here.

I can guarantee you that this is a great apartment so looking forward to a future collaboration and friendship.

Yes, the rent is $1000 per month including internet and car park ( but water, gas/electricity in not included )

The apartment is ready. You'll need only to receive the keys and lease
agreement to check it, and see if you like it. Obviously we need a way
to complete this deal, that will allow us to make sure we receive what
we are after. you can also share that apartment with a friend. In order
of that I have found a way for us to complete the deal safely and fast,
and in this way you will receive the keys in less than 2 days, if you
move fast as well. The solution is provided by a company called BGS
Express ( www.bgs-express.com
) which is similar to FedEx, TNT or UPS, which will handle both payment
and delivery of the keys. I have found a procedure that will allow you
to pay for the rent of the apartment after you will receive the keys of
it and through this way you will see it and decide if you will stay in
the apt or not before I receive my payment.
